  • The Museum of Creative Human Art presents Taking Another Look, a collection of drawings on paper by Lawrence Baker

With his preferred media of graphite, he experiments with color washes and composition to create images of elements found in nature. Influenced by landscape artists, especially Vincent Van Gogh, Baker prioritizes aesthetic choices when expressing himself through his work.

During his process of creation, Baker states that his, “mind becomes like unperturbed water: clear, stripped bare, and unencumbered.” In his own words he remarks, “As I stand before each blank canvas, my universe becomes the white of the paper and the black of the graphite...Naked is how I came into the world and this is how I approach my work. The emotional baggage that I carry every waking moment of my life is set aside; although in the end, it somehow is manifested in the finished art. I only take what nature provides, making images from what I see and creating a vision that will exceed the sum of its parts.”

  • MCHA Presents: "Helping Hands" A Solo Exhibition by Stina Aleah

The Museum of Creative Human Art presents Helping Hands, a solo exhibition of 13 new works by painter Stina Aleah, and accompanied by a sound piece. This collection of paintings deconstructs and visually illustrates a poem of the same title, which is based on a recurring theme from Aleah’s past and represents the feelings brought forth while experiencing the words firsthand.

Aleah remarks that, “Many times we cannot recognize ill intent because often it is hiding behind the guise of being ‘helpful.’ Unfortunately, lending a ‘helping hand’ is not always as it appears, and can be meant to harm, to suppress your voice, authenticity, and your light. My hope is that this collection of work can inspire those to look beyond what are perceived as ‘helping hands,’ stay true to one's own authentic self, and to always stand true in who you are.”

  • The Morgan Conservatory x Museum of Creative Human Art Present Cross Generations; bridging the gap of artists

The Museum of Creative Human Arts sets its intentions on intergenerational connection as it plans to deliver (curate) a show that brings multidisciplinary artists of different generations under one roof this summer at the Morgan Conservatory Gallery.

Combining the voices of the older and younger generations, this show is a testament of the best work from these artists at this moment in time, creating a network and celebrating comradery. Amplifying our artists of color, this exhibition is our collaborative way to shift our focus, bridge the gap, and continue to highlight our artists in our community. This show will be on view July 30 to September 17.

  • MCHA presents AAWFUL AARON, an exhibition of drawings, paintings, and sculpture by Cleveland-based artist Aaron D. Williams.

AAWFUL AARON uses sports to assist audiences in more deeply understanding the anxiety and mental health struggles of a Black man.

Beginning at the End

The Beginning at the End exhibition is about how loss and decay bring the chance for renewal, for something else to live from what came before. When a tree falls to the forest floor, other organisms, animals and plants sustain themselves from the decomposition of that tree. Life cycles are the way generations are born: the foundation for our world. Renewal is only possible through loss. Pulitzer prize winning writer and poet, Mary Oliver, describes “… the one world / we all belong to / where everything / sooner or later / is part of everything else…”Endings give way to beginnings. These transitional moments are full of beauty and hope, openings to a reassured perspective in what it means to be part of everything else.”
